Practice Fields

Pine Island's school baseball and softball practice fields are heavily utilized by our youth through varsity levels for both spring school teams and summer baseball and softball leagues.  The softball folks have been very good about allowing baseball teams to use their fields for baseball practices and games.  Keep in mind that softball has top priority for the two softball fields and the pool field but baseball often gets permission to use them for baseball games and practices if they are free.  When baseball fields are open you are encouraged to use baseball fields for practices and games.  Please make sure to reserve field time before scheduling an activity on any of the fields. When making a field reservation request, use the online practice field schedule to determine when there might be available times:

Please do not assume that if the field shows available that you can use the field without first reserving it, as the schedule changes frequently.

If there is any discrepancy in who gets to use a field the field reservation spreadsheet is the final determining factor.  If you have not reserved the field you may be asked to leave by a team that has legitimately reserved the field for that date/time.  Coaches should consider bringing a copy of the field reservation spreadsheet to practices just in case you need to show proof of reservation.

Baseball Fields

There are three baseball fields on the Pine Island school grounds that are available for practices and games:
  1. The "warming house field" that has its back stop next to the ice rink warming house behind the Pine Island School.  This is the field where tee ball and Rookie league plays little league games.
  2. The "bus garage field" that has its back stop next to the bus garage behind the Pine Island School.  This is the field where the Minors plays league games.  There are base anchors for both 65 and 75 foot bases.  Portable pitching rubbers are normally available in the shed next to the warming house and the shed door is typically left unlocked.  Please return any equipment where you found it when you are done.
  3. The "JV field" which is by the river next to the varsity baseball field.  This is the field where the Majors plays league games.  There are base anchors for both 75 and 90 foot bases.
Reservations
Traveling coaches and PIBA members can make reservations by editing the field reservation document and signing up for an unused time.

For others, baseball Field reservations can be made by emailing the field reservation coordinator.  You are also welcome and encouraged to use the baseball batting cages but that is on a first come basis as the cages are also used by school teams, summer baseball teams, and the Pioneers.  Baseball field reservations can be made by contacting the baseball field coordinator via email:
Please specify your team name, the field you wish to reserve, and desired dates and times.

Softball Fields

There are three softball fields on the Pine Island school grounds:
  1. Varsity Field (North)
  2. Junior Varsity Field (South)
  3. Pool Field (west of the track/football field)
Reservations

Softball field reservations can be by contacting the coordinator listed on the softball field reservation schedule.  The online schedule should be used as a guide of open dates when making a reservation request.

When using the softball fields, please adhere to the following:

  • It's a good practice to bring a copy of the field schedule with you to all games/practices just in case you need to verify that you have a reservation.
  • Please remember to clean up after games and practices on the varsity and JV fields.  All trash should be thrown away.
  • Bases need to be put back in the dugout and plugs go back in the base anchors.
  • If a temporary rubber is used please remove it and return it to the dugout.  Keep in mind that other softball and baseball leagues use the temporary rubber for their games and practices so it needs to remain accessible to them.
Following this procedure will make it easier for the grounds crew to care for and drag fields for us.
