Little League

General Information

Little league is set up for children in the Pine Island school district.  League participants are divided into teams and compete in league play.  The purpose of the league is to allow kids to develop baseball skills and enjoy the game of baseball while competing in organized team play against other Pine Island little league teams.

Each little league division will have one or more coordinators that oversee the league.  All little league coaches are volunteers that must complete a required background check initiated by Pine Island Baseball Assoiciation.  Coaches are typically parents, grandparents, or guardians of the players on a team.

Divisions by Grade

A child’s grade is based on the grade they are completing in the current school year (the school year prior to the summer baseball season).  Little leagues are offered for children starting in Pre-K and K through the fourth grade as follows:

    • Tee ball:  Pre-K and K
    • Rookie league:  first and second grade
    • Minor League:  third and fourth grade
When you register your child online you will specify their grade and the system will offer the appropriate session(s) for your child.  Click the links in the little league tabs at the top of the page to see the description and ages for each little league division.

Girls typically play in the Little League Tee Ball and Rookie divisions until they reach the 3rd grade.  Girls that have just completed 3rd grade are encouraged to start playing summer softball through the Panther Strikes Traveling Softball League.  Panther strikes begins focusing more specifically on softball fundamentals and teaches girls the game of softball while Little League baseball starting with the Minors division stresses baseball fundamentals and rules.
