15U and 5th Grade Traveling Team News

The 15U baseball team made up of the Senior Babe Ruth (Gold) team plus two members of the Junior Babe Ruth A (Maroon) team competed in the Apple Valley 15U AA tournament over Father's Day weekend with 20 teams.  They started out going 2-1 on Saturday in pool play and ended up with the six seed going into bracket play on Sunday.  The first game in bracket play was against a tough number three seed Annandale team that had went 3-0 in pool play.  PI won 1-0 in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring on a two out single to move into the semi-finals.  In the semi-finals, PI played Holy Angels and won 16-6.  That set up the championship game against St. Cloud.  PI ended up losing 9-5, but played very hard after a long day of baseball.  This runner up finish has qualified the 15U team for three different state tournaments in July.

Also, the 5th grade traveling team competed in the Lewiston-Altura state qualifying tournament over the weekend.  PI beat Cannon Falls 12-0 to take 3rd place and also qualify for the MBT and Gopher State tournaments in July.

Interested in becoming involved in Pine Island Youth Baseball?
Our youth program is strong because of the many coaches that volunteer their time and talents to coach our young players.  If you are interested in coaching either traveling or in house teams please contact one of the league coordinators.  You can also volunteer to coach during the sign up process.  If you are interested in becoming active in the Pine Island Baseball Association, you are encouraged to contact one of the board members.  The board meets frequently to discuss our youth baseball program and we are always looking for additional voices to help make the game of baseball better for our Pine Island youth.
