Little League for Tuesday May 31st moved to Wednesday June 1st
Due to high school baseball section playoffs on Tuesday May 31st, all little league games have been moved to Wednesday night, June 1st.  All times listed on the schedules remain the same.

Umpires Meeting Changed
Due schedule changes the umpire meeting has been moved to 6:30-7:00pm on Wednesday June 1 at warming house instead of 7:00-7:30pm

Pine Island High School Baseball Subsection Game vs. Z-M Suspended Saturday May 28th
The high school section 1AA West subsection semi-final game between Pine Island and Zumbrota-Mazzepa in Cannon Falls on Saturday May 28th was suspended due to rain and wet field conditions.  The game is currently tied 3-3 after 8 innings of play.  The game will be resumed on Monday May 30th starting at 3pm at John Birch Park city fields in Cannon Falls.   The remainder of the 1AA West subsection schedule for the games held in Cannon Falls is as follows:
  • The winner of the Pine Island vs. Zumbrota-Mazzepa game will move on the play Cannon Falls on Tuesday May 31st at 4pm in the subsection final
  • The loser of the Pine Island vs. Zumbrota-Mazzepa game will play again approximatey 45 minutes after the conclusion of the game on Monday against Dover-Eyota
  • The winner of the PI/Z-M loser vs. Dover-Eyota game on Monday will play on Tuesday May 31st at 7pm vs. the loser of the subsection final game (Cannon Falls vs. PI or Z-M)

11U Traveling Team Places 3rd at Gopher State Tournament

The Pine Island 11U traveling place 3rd in a pool of 28 teams at the Gopher State Tournament of Champions the weekend of July 24-26.

Pool Play:  The 11U squad started off on Friday beating the 10th seeded Rosemount Irish Gold team 14-6.  On Saturday, they played 2 games.  In the first game, the 11U team tied the #5 seeded Lewiston-Altura team 6-6.  In the second game, they beat the #19 seeded Lakeville North team to advance to bracket play on Sunday.

Bracket Play:  The 1st game on Sunday was against the #4 seeded St. Michael Albertville team, which the 11U team won 9-0.  Next up was the #1 seeded Mankato Black team.  The PI squad played them tough but lost 5-2.  After the game the coaches received multiple comments from umpires, coaches and fans on their outstanding performance against Mankato.  They moved on to play Prior Lake Gold for 3rd place.  After falling behind 8-0 and then 10-2, the resilient 11U squad scored 11 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a 13-10 lead.  They then gave up 1 run in the top of the 5th and scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th to go up 15-11.   After retiring Prior Lake Gold with a 1-2-3 top of the 6th inning, the 11U team proudly brought home the 3rd place trophy.
12U Traveling Team Places 3rd at MBT State Tournament

On July 11-12, the 12U traveling team competed in the MBT state tournament and ended up claiming 3rd place.  The 12U squad went 3-0 in pool play beating Prior Lake White 12-2, St Michael/Albertville 12-5, and Lakeville North 17-6.
Bracket play started with a 6-3 win against a tough Kerkhovan/Murdock/Sunberg team.  In the quarterfinals the PI squad beat Edina Green 15-10.  PI then played a familiar foe, Hayfield, in the semi-finals and lost 7-4.  In a great bounce back performance, the 12U squad played Minnetonka Big Willow for 3rd place and won 18-10.
This great group of kids played their hearts out and showed everyone the kind of baseball we play in Pine Island!
Senior Babe Ruth Tournament Championship Game, rained out Thursday July 16, will be played Tuesday July 21st at noon at the Pine Island varsity field.

15U and 5th Grade Traveling Team News

The 15U baseball team made up of the Senior Babe Ruth (Gold) team plus two members of the Junior Babe Ruth A (Maroon) team competed in the Apple Valley 15U AA tournament over Father's Day weekend with 20 teams.  They started out going 2-1 on Saturday in pool play and ended up with the six seed going into bracket play on Sunday.  The first game in bracket play was against a tough number three seed Annandale team that had went 3-0 in pool play.  PI won 1-0 in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring on a two out single to move into the semi-finals.  In the semi-finals, PI played Holy Angels and won 16-6.  That set up the championship game against St. Cloud.  PI ended up losing 9-5, but played very hard after a long day of baseball.  This runner up finish has qualified the 15U team for three different state tournaments in July.

Also, the 5th grade traveling team competed in the Lewiston-Altura state qualifying tournament over the weekend.  PI beat Cannon Falls 12-0 to take 3rd place and also qualify for the MBT and Gopher State tournaments in July.

7th Annual Pine Island Panther Baseball Classic Tournament

Pine Island Baseball Association sponsored the 7th annual baseball classic tournament on Saturday, June 6th during Pine Island Cheese Fest.  For details and a printable flyer please see the PI Classic Tourney Page.
Pine Island Youth Baseball Association Aluminum Can Drive  Help support Pine Island Youth Baseball by saving your aluminum cans!!!  Cans can be dropped off in the trailer parked on the north side of the Fire Hall building on main street.  Thank you for your donations!
Interested in becoming involved in Pine Island Youth Baseball?
Our youth program is strong because of the many coaches that volunteer their time and talents to coach our young players.  If you are interested in coaching either traveling or in house teams please contact one of the league coordinators.  You can also volunteer to coach during the sign up process.  If you are interested in becoming active in the Pine Island Baseball Association, you are encouraged to contact one of the board members.  The board meets frequently to discuss our youth baseball program and we are always looking for additional voices to help make the game of baseball better for our Pine Island youth.
