MAJOR & MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL CLINIC FOR APRIL 27th POSTPONED TO NEXT WEDNESDAY MAY 4TH
Due to the cold and wet conditions forecast for this evening, the Pine Island Little League Baseball Clinic, for the Major and Minor League players will be postponed for tonight and will be made up on Wednesday, May 4th, at 6:15-7:45 pm. The Clinic will take place down on the Bus Garage Field.
Majors and Minors Clinic Wednesday May 4th @ 6:15pm There will be a clinic for all Majors and Minors players on Wednesday May 4th from 6:15pm to 7:45pm. Players should report to the baseball field next to the bus garage behind the Pine Island High School. Please wear baseball practice attire and bring your glove. Bats will be provided for hitting drills so players are asked to leave their bats at home for the clinic.
Clinicians will be the 2016 Pine Island High School varsity baseball coaches and players.
In the event of rain, cancellation notices will be sent via sportssignup and you can also watch this Web site for cancellation. The clinic will not be moved inside if it rains.

11U Traveling Team Places 3rd at Gopher State Tournament
The Pine Island 11U traveling place 3rd in a pool of 28 teams at the Gopher State Tournament of Champions the weekend of July 24-26.
Pool Play: The 11U squad started off on Friday beating the 10th seeded Rosemount Irish Gold team 14-6. On Saturday, they played 2 games. In the first game, the 11U team tied the #5 seeded Lewiston-Altura team 6-6. In the second game, they beat the #19 seeded Lakeville North team to advance to bracket play on Sunday.
Bracket Play: The 1st game on Sunday was against the #4 seeded St. Michael Albertville team, which the 11U team won 9-0. Next up was the #1 seeded Mankato Black team. The PI squad played them tough but lost 5-2. After the game the coaches received multiple comments from umpires, coaches and fans on their outstanding performance against Mankato. They moved on to play Prior Lake Gold for 3rd place. After falling behind 8-0 and then 10-2, the resilient 11U squad scored 11 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a 13-10 lead. They then gave up 1 run in the top of the 5th and scored 2 in the bottom of the 5th to go up 15-11. After retiring Prior Lake Gold with a 1-2-3 top of the 6th inning, the 11U team proudly brought home the 3rd place trophy.
12U Traveling Team Places 3rd at MBT State Tournament
On July 11-12, the 12U traveling team competed in the MBT state tournament and ended up claiming 3rd place. The 12U squad went 3-0 in pool play beating Prior Lake White 12-2, St Michael/Albertville 12-5, and Lakeville North 17-6.
Bracket play started with a 6-3 win against a tough Kerkhovan/Murdock/Sunberg team. In the quarterfinals the PI squad beat Edina Green 15-10. PI then played a familiar foe, Hayfield, in the semi-finals and lost 7-4. In a great bounce back performance, the 12U squad played Minnetonka Big Willow for 3rd place and won 18-10.
This great group of kids played their hearts out and showed everyone the kind of baseball we play in Pine Island!
Senior Babe Ruth Tournament Championship Game, rained out Thursday July 16, will be played Tuesday July 21st at noon at the Pine Island varsity field.

15U and 5th Grade Traveling Team News
The 15U baseball team made up of the Senior Babe Ruth (Gold) team plus two members of the Junior Babe Ruth A (Maroon) team competed in the Apple Valley 15U AA tournament over Father's Day weekend with 20 teams. They started out going 2-1 on Saturday in pool play and ended up with the six seed going into bracket play on Sunday. The first game in bracket play was against a tough number three seed Annandale team that had went 3-0 in pool play. PI won 1-0 in the bottom of the 8th inning scoring on a two out single to move into the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, PI played Holy Angels and won 16-6. That set up the championship game against St. Cloud. PI ended up losing 9-5, but played very hard after a long day of baseball. This runner up finish has qualified the 15U team for three different state tournaments in July.
Also, the 5th grade traveling team competed in the Lewiston-Altura state qualifying tournament over the weekend. PI beat Cannon Falls 12-0 to take 3rd place and also qualify for the MBT and Gopher State tournaments in July.

Pine Island Youth Baseball Association Aluminum Can Drive Help support Pine Island Youth Baseball by saving your aluminum cans!!! Cans can be dropped off in the trailer parked on the north side of the Fire Hall building on main street. Thank you for your donations!
Interested in becoming involved in Pine Island Youth Baseball? Our youth program is strong because of the many coaches that volunteer their time and talents to coach our young players. If you are interested in coaching either traveling or in house teams please contact one of the league coordinators. You can also volunteer to coach during the sign up process. If you are interested in becoming active in the Pine Island Baseball Association, you are encouraged to contact one of the board members. The board meets frequently to discuss our youth baseball program and we are always looking for additional voices to help make the game of baseball better for our Pine Island youth.
